The George and Rebecca Barnes Foundation presents
The Lesser-Told Story
A history of the African-American experience in Syracuse as told by a panel of distinguished urban leaders.
The panel will lead a discussion about the business, social and economic evolution of Syracuse, starting from the time that George Barnes and his associates were active in the Abolitionist Movement. Refreshments including a food sampling with a distinctly Southern flair will be served after the panel discussion.
Panel Members:
- John Betsey: Former personnel assistant with Carrier Corporation and retired Syracuse City School educator.
- Linton Betsey: Former consultant to the N.Y. department of Labor and business owner in the 15th Ward
- Robert Betsey: Educator in the Syracuse City School District.
- Manny Breland: Former S.U. basketball star, retired Syracuse City School administrator and consultant to the mayors office and the Syracuse police department.
- Clarence Dunham: Former County Legislator and retired AT&T employee.
- Theardis Martino: President/CEO of Matawon Development Group, Inc., committed to working with women- and minority-owned business enterprises.
- Marshall Nelson: Recipient of The King’s College Alumni Award for outstand academic Achievement and retired Niagara Mohawk executive.
